Iran’s Rules on drinking Alcohol

Considering the fact that Iran is an Islamic country,
drinking wine or getting drunk is legally prohibited and is actually against the law.

Non-Muslims are anyway excluded from obeying this law.
In other words, non-Muslims are free to drink.

Referring to Iran law, non-Muslims are allowed to drink alcohol drinks under two conditions:

  • Avoid drinking alcohol beverage in public, where they are observed by other people
  • Avoid showing up in public when they are drunk

So, non-Muslims including tourists are free to drink wine in private and in nonpublic places.
In the case of getting drunk under mentioned conditions,
they should resist showing up in public places anyway.

By the way, Muslim tourists are prohibited from drinking alcohol drinks
